Autumn Beauty

It’s technically been Fall for almost a month, but yesterday was the first day that it really felt like Fall. Clear blue skies, a crisp breeze, and crackling leaves underfoot; the scent of cider and cinnamon and the hint of wood smoke. Autumn has always been my favorite season, and every year I look forward to breaking out the sweaters and watching the neighborhood kids head back to school. Fall is the perfect time for a wedding, but it’s really easy to fall into the typical “Autumn Wedding” color palette. There are ways to give a subtle nod to the season without going overboard with traditional details. Warm metallic tones and opulent colors are key. Perhaps try a rich navy instead of that mulberry, or substitute your summer yellow for a glowing bronze or gold. The same hints apply to your bridal beauty look. While you might get away with a vibrant pink lip in the spring, cooler temperatures call for deeper colors and warm, shimmering metallics. Rich plums and wines are beautiful on the lips and are set to be wildly popular if the fall runway shows are anything to go by. And don’t be afraid to wear a vibrant lip color, even for the most important kiss of your life! There are some great new products out today that can ensure maximum color payoff while staying put on your lips – not your groom.

I’ve been a fan of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ Lip Tar for some time now and I recently purchased a tube of a new color called “Black Dahlia”. It’s a deep, rich plum that is surprisingly wearable and trust me, it lasts and lasts. A color like this is daring, so make sure that the rest of your look leans toward the understated. A soft gold shimmery shadow with stroke a of liquid liner would do the trick. Be bold and give it or something like it a try for your gorgeous (yet unexpected) Fall wedding. You’re sure to be stylish and you’ll have a happy groom to boot!

Cheers,

Rachel
